Artist Materials

Artist Materials includes paintbrushes, paints, and other art making tools as well as canvases and supports, all owned or used by Georgia O’Keeffe. Preserved by the artist, these items provide clues into O’Keeffe’s artistic process through hundreds of her paintbrushes specifically trimmed to accommodate her distinct style and an array of her easels, paints, pastels, and charcoal.

The Museum’s collection includes two homes in northern New Mexico where the artist lived and worked for more than forty years along with the artist’s modernist furnishings and other contents reflecting her day-to-day life. The homes also include source materials for artworks such as rocks and bones, which O’Keeffe used to decorate her homes, as well as much of the personal property that remained with the artist at the end of her life.
